November 3, Minsk. The prosecutor's office of the Zhlobin district supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against two residents of Zhlobin, who were charged with desecration of state symbols, BelTA informs citing the information service of the prosecutor's office of the Gomel region.

According to the materials of the case, in September 2020, in a state of alcoholic intoxication , two young people tore the State Flag of Belarus from the building of the post office in Zhlobin, and later tried to tear it and set it on fire. However, they could not do this due to the nature of the fabric. "They also committed other actions against the state symbol," the prosecutor's office noted.

Then one of the accused threw the flag on the ground and began to trample on it with his feet.

The defendants have already come to the attention of law enforcement agencies. In March 2021, both were convicted of violence against police officers and active participation in illegal mass events. Then the court sentenced the defendants to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a penal colony.

This time, after examining the evidence presented by the public prosecutor, the court of Zhlobin district sentenced the defendants to 1 year of restriction of freedom with direction to an open correctional facility. As a result, each of the defendants in the totality of crimes was given the final punishment - 2 years and 8 months in prison.

The verdict has not entered into force, it can be appealed and protested on appeal.
