In Svisloch district, a man doused his wife and her lover with gasoline and set them on fire

Photo by the Investigative Committee of the Grodno Region May 23, Minsk . Investigators are establishing the circumstances of an attempted murder of a man and a woman, committed in a generally dangerous manner. The details were provided to BELTA by the Investigative Committee of the Grodno Region.

According to the criminal case materials, on the night of May 16, rescuers received a message that a house was on fire in the village of Porozovo, Svisloch District. As it turned out later, the cause of the fire was not a short circuit or a violation of fire safety rules by one of the household members. After the fire was extinguished, an investigative task force worked at the scene. Investigators, using the capabilities of the mobile forensic laboratory of the regional office with the involvement of specialists from the State Forensic Examination Committee of the Grodno Region, inspected the scene of the incident, recorded traces, and seized a number of items and objects.

"It was established that the day before the incident, the 36-year-old woman brought a friend to the house, who was supposedly supposed to do repairs at the family's place of residence. However, the 35-year-old man was in no hurry to do any construction work, actively drank alcohol with the spouses, not hesitating to show signs of attention to the woman. Apparently, this state of affairs did not suit all the participants of the joint gatherings," the investigators said.
 
When the 46-year-old local resident realized that the relationship of his companion and new acquaintance concerned more than just repairs, he decided to take revenge on the offender. The offended husband, considerably heated by alcohol, poured gasoline from a canister into a glass jar in the outbuilding on the night of May 16-17, after which he returned to the house, where he doused his wife and her guest, and then set them on fire. This story could have ended even more tragically, because at the time of the crime there were 4 children of the couple (8, 10, 13, 17 years old) in the house, as well as two friends of the eldest daughter. All of them, as well as the suspect himself, safely left the house and, fortunately , the children were not harmed.

"The woman and her friend received burns on 90% and 94% of the body, respectively. Currently, the man is in intensive care, his condition is assessed as extremely serious. Despite the efforts of doctors, it was not possible to save the woman, while in the hospital, she died without regaining consciousness," added representatives of the Investigative Committee.

The investigation established that the family is in a socially dangerous situation. Inspecting the house, the employees of the investigative department saw not only the burnt rooms, but also in those rooms that survived - disorder and complete unsanitary conditions, the absence of normal living conditions for people.

"An examination of the accused's personality showed that more than 10 years ago the defendant was prosecuted for theft. And since the beginning of the year, he has violated administrative legislation twice through the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. The man has been questioned, and his testimony has been verified on the spot with his participation. The investigator has ordered a number of expert examinations, including forensic medical, fire-technical, genotyposcopic, and forensic chemical examinations," the investigators summarized.

The man's actions have been classified under Part 1 of Article 14 and paragraphs 1, 5, Part 2 of Article 139 (attempted murder of two persons committed in a generally dangerous manner) of the Criminal Code of Belarus. With the sanction of the prosecutor, a preventive measure in the form of detention has been applied to him.
