The five-year saga between ex-husbands Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is drawing to a close. For a month and a half, the details of their strange marriage, voiced in the courtroom, managed to disperse into quotes, and the pictures became memes on social networks. We recall what celebrities managed to say about each other, and we understand how Johnny and Amber became victims of domestic violence.
Episode 1: a bruise on the face and 7 millionLet's start with the fact that Amber Heard is the same woman who took Johnny Depp away from the family. Their romance began on the set of The Rum Diary and went so far that the actor left the mother of his two children and married a new lover in 2015. This marriage lasted only 15 months.
Amber filed for divorce. After the official announcement of the breakup, she appeared in public with a bruise on her face, accusing Johnny of constantly raising his hand to her, having taken ALCOHOL or drugs. "He was just insanely jealous of me!" - then the actress explained the reason. In COURT, she demanded not only a divorce, but also to forbid the "domestic tyrant" from approaching her.
The actor's lawyers already then said that Hurd was lying for financial gain. And they even offered 7 million compensation if Amber withdraws her lawsuit against Johnny. The actress tried to beat everyone, saying: she will take the money, but only to send everything to charity - to the children's hospital. it never occurred to her that years later, Johnny would check whether the ex-wife kept her promise. It turned out that the children's hospital had not received a single cent from Mrs. Hurd. So after the divorce, Amber became richer by 7 million, and Johnny Depp's career gradually went downhill: he was deleted from Pirates of the Caribbean, and from Fantastic Beasts too.
Episode 2: tabloids and voice messagesIn 2018, the British tabloid The Sun published an article with the headline saying: Depp did beat his wife! Johnny immediately sued the newspaper, but lost it. Amber provided evidence that the ex-husband in June 2013 attacked her friend, who just hugged Heard. Then he trashed a hotel room and threw glasses at his wife. Also in court, the actor’s correspondence with a friend was voiced, where they discuss how they will burn Amber as if she were a witch. Johnny explained that this was actually a playful correspondence, but the jury did not understand the actor's sense of humor.
At that trial, an important point was revealed: Amber, as it turned out, was not quiet either. The ex-husband made public her voice messages, where she regrets that she did not slap him in the face, as it should, but only lightly hit him with her palm, and laments: sometimes rage prevents her from controlling herself. But since Johnny did not file a lawsuit against Amber about domestic violence, but still raised his hand against her, the article in The Sun was found to be true.
Episode 3: "Let's See Who Believes You"In December 2018, Hurd published an op-ed in The Washington Post where she again raised the topic of assault. The actress assured that, "like many other women, she was subjected to violence and harassment while still in college," but only during a public showdown with her ex-spouse "felt the full force of society's anger that falls on women who dare to speak out."
And although Depp's last name was never mentioned in the column, his reaction to the confession of his ex-wife was not long in coming: she received a lawsuit from his lawyers for $ 50 million and allegations of defamation. Amber filed a response - for an amount twice as much.
The new scandal, it seems, only provoked the actress - there was no such amount of "dirty linen" in court for a long time. Amber colorfully painted how her husband, drunk or sniffing cocaine, dragged her by the hair, choked her, beat her severely, and then ... cried and asked for forgiveness. Johnny no less colorfully told and showed how the ex-wife threw a bottle at him and cut off the tip of his finger with a fragment, and once she even made a very strange "prank" - she put her excrement in her husband's bed. The court revealed a lot of unpleasant details about both spouses. For example, that Johnny's jealousy wasn't so unfounded. Amber really cheated on him. And one of her lovers was Elon Musk. And in one of the records of the conversation of the ex-spouses provided to the court, Hurd herself admitted that she raised her hand to Depp,
The details of the terrible family life of Hollywood stars turned out to be so interesting to the Americans that what was happening in the courtroom was shown live on one of the TV channels. What made this process even more like a reality show was that anyone could attend the meetings, so fans of Johnny and Amber began to queue at dawn. Everyone who was not lucky enough to become spectators in the courtroom itself remained on duty near his building, arranging pickets in support of one or the other participant in the lawsuit. The lawsuit of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has gone viral and has overshadowed in popularity even MegZit, the scandalous story of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
PS Whatever it was, the process itself turned out to be important for society for several reasons. First of all, Johnny and Amber showed how children grow up in families where domestic violence is the norm. After all, both Depp and Hurd were beaten and humiliated by their parents in childhood. The psychologist of the couple, Laurel Anderson, noted at the court hearing that both spouses used violence against each other. Their relationship was toxic. Hurd could hit Depp when he tried to get away from her. Sometimes she attacked first, but more often she answered her husband's blows with her fists. As a child, the actress was beaten by a drunken father, and she was used to fighting back. The psychologist also stated that it was Amber who often initiated the fights, and almost always it was she who provoked her husband to physical violence.
“They were both victims of childhood abuse, Johnny managed to restrain aggression, but the relationship with Heard changed him,” the DOCTOR opined.
Another important issue that the scandalous story of the ex-spouses raised was hushed up in society for a long time: it turns out that men are also victims of domestic violence. Yes, most often psychological, although the example of Depp and Hurd showed that women sometimes allow themselves to be beaten.
