February 8, Gomel. Since the beginning of the year, six people have drowned in the Gomel region, BelTA informs referring to the regional organization OSVOD.

Two people drowned in the Sozha spill, one in ice fishing and another in a fall into a ditch. Two incidents in baths have also been reported.

Most of these tragedies are caused by the carelessness of the dead. People drink alcoholic beverages, and often their further route runs through reservoirs, reclamation ditches, canals, streams, rivers, swamps and lakes, and their depth does not matter. “Sometimes even puddles are dangerous. For example, in 2022, in the village of Zarechye, Rechitsa district, a man fell into a puddle and died. Similar cases occur near ditches. For example, on the afternoon of January 7 this year, a body was found in a ditch near the village of Zaprudovka, Dobrush district -year-old resident of the nearby village of Antonovka. He disappeared on January 5. Previously, he was in a state of intoxication," the regional organization said.

Employees of OSVOD emphasized that when drinking alcohol, the instinct of self-preservation and attention is dulled, therefore, one should not approach water bodies in this state. "Do not try to cross rivers, lakes, ditches on ice. Alcohol also contributes to rapid hypothermia. Take care of yourself and take care of your relatives, especially the elderly," the organization recommended.
