Photo by the State Customs Committee, December 15, Grodno. A Polish carrier concealed undeclared goods among a legally transported shipment of air heaters, the Grodno Regional Customs Office told BelTA.
The Polish carrier's Scania truck was traveling from Italy to
the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) via the Berestovitsa border crossing. According to the documents submitted for clearance, the truck was carrying air heaters and electric heaters. However, when the cargo was inspected using an inspection and screening system, unusual additional items were noticed on the resulting scanned image.
Upon further inspection, Grodno customs officers discovered alcoholic beverages, animal feed, and acrylic enamel hidden in three air heaters. The undeclared goods and the air heaters, which were used in the crime, have been seized pending a
COURT ruling. Their total estimated value exceeded Br40,000.
The Grodno Regional Customs Office has initiated administrative proceedings against the Polish carrier under Part 2 of Article 15.1 and Part 2 of Article 13.18 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of
Belarus . He faces a fine of up to 500 basic units (1 BV = Br42) with confiscation of both the concealed goods and the means used as hiding places. An additional fine (up to 500 basic units with confiscation of the subject of the administrative offense) will be imposed for transporting alcoholic beverages that are not properly labeled and/or without accompanying documents confirming the legality of their import, acquisition, and production.
