June 17, Grodno. The Ostrovets District Court delivered a verdict in a criminal case of particularly malicious hooliganism, the Grodno Regional Court press service told BelTA. According to the court, on the night of March 9, 2024

, a young man , while intoxicated near a house on Volodarsky Street in Ostrovets, without provocation, out of hooligan motives, using violence, and seeking to demonstrate his physical superiority, grabbed a woman born in 1966 by the arm and intentionally attempted to stab her in the abdomen. The woman grabbed the blade, causing lacerations to her hands. Continuing his criminal actions, the defendant stabbed the victim at least four times in various parts of her body, kicked her, and punched her at least five times, causing less serious injuries. The defendant pleaded guilty and expressed sincere remorse. In court, he explained that after breaking up with his girlfriend, he began to experience aggression toward women, especially when intoxicated . On the day of the incident, after drinking and texting with the girl, he became angry and aggressive toward women. After finding a knife on a shelf in his brother's store, he decided to take revenge on women by inflicting bodily harm on one of them. Near the entrance to his apartment building, he saw a woman, pulled out a knife, and began stabbing her randomly. He was unsure whether bodily harm had been caused. The woman began screaming, calling for help, and grabbed the knife blade. He continued to grab the woman by the hair and attempted to push her to the ground. Since the woman actively resisted and screamed, he fled. The court found the defendant guilty of intentional actions that grossly violate public order and express clear disrespect for society, accompanied by the use of violence, characterized by particular cynicism, and involving the infliction of less serious bodily injury, committed with the use of other objects used as weapons to inflict bodily injury, in the absence of elements of a more serious crime (especially malicious hooliganism). Under Part 3 of Article 339 of the Criminal Code, the man was sentenced to seven years and six months' imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony. The defendant was ordered to pay Br12,000 in compensation for moral damages to the victim and a state fee of Br120. The court's verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed and contested in accordance with the established procedure.
