July 18, Brest. In the Brest region in January-June this year, the number of fires decreased by 17% compared to the same period in 2022. This information was reported during a press conference dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the Belarusian fire service, BelTA has learned.

In the southwestern region, 430 fires occurred in six months (in January-June 2022, there were 518 fires). 43 people died in the fire. During fires and other emergencies, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations rescued 60 people, almost 250 people were evacuated from dangerous areas. Firefighters prevented the destruction of 145 buildings and 19 pieces of equipment, 443 tons of fodder and commercial crops.

"The main cause of fires is careless handling of fire. Approximately 70-75% is due to this. A number of main reasons include violation of the rules for the operation of electrical networks and electrical equipment, as well as violation of the rules for the operation of furnaces, heat generating units and devices," said the first deputy HEAD of the Brest Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Alexander Sychev - Most of those killed in the fires were in a state ofALCOHOL intoxication . About 40% were unemployed, about the same number - people older than working age. "In six months, nine fires were registered in the Brest region, which occurred due to childish pranks.

Public outcry was caused by a fire that broke out in the Pinsk region at the end of May. A 33-year-old woman and two children died: a three-year-old girl and a seven-month-old boy. "The woman tried to leave the house, but during the evacuation with her children she got into the fire. Various options were considered, what became the fire. The investigation has not yet put an end to it," said the head of the Brest regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Valery Rudolf.

In the Brest region for six months, the number of fires in natural ecosystems has decreased by more than five times, and the total area of ​​fires has decreased by 11 times.
