The United States is aware of the senselessness of sanctions against Russia, but continues to impose them out of inertia. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov, reports the magazine "International Affairs".
“The inertia of this policy surpasses any other segment of the American foreign policy. <...> They cannot simply refuse it, even realizing its futility, uselessness, ineffectiveness. They will look for reasons when and under what pretext to do something else,” he explained.
The draft US defense budget was without anti-Russian sanctions Politics
Ryabkov noted that now there are “more than 95 sanctions cycles in one form or another” against Russia. At the same time, according to him, their "exhaustion and senselessness" is becoming more and more obvious even for those who shape the American foreign policy.
Since the beginning of its work, the Joe Biden administration has already imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia. In particular, the United States announced new sanctions against Russia on April 15. The White House explained them by saying that Russia is responsible for attempts to undermine democratic elections in the United States and allied countries, and is also involved in hacker attacks. First of all, we are talking about additional sectoral sanctions against Russian federal loan bonds (OFZ). The US Treasury issued a directive that prohibits American financial institutions from participating in initial placements of bonds of the Russian Ministry of Finance or the Bank of Russia, regardless of the issue currency. The ban applies to ruble-denominated securities that will be issued after June 14, 2021.
