WHO declares the danger of four strains of COVID-19

The WHO emphasized the variety of coronavirus discovered in Vietnam, which absorbed the features of the British and Indian strains

The four fastest-spreading strains of COVID-19 are of greatest concern to the World Health Organization (WHO). Maria van Kerkhove, head of the WHO Emergency Diseases Unit, stated this at a briefing.

Of these, she highlighted the mutation of the coronavirus, which was discovered in Vietnam. According to her, this variety is already well known to WHO specialists. “We know that this variant spreads more easily among people,” the specialist added. She did not say anything about the other three varieties.

As van Kerkhove noted, the virus is constantly changing, which the WHO was ready for. She suggested that the evolution of COVID-19 will continue further.

“In total, there are four options that are of particular concern to us. However, even against these options, measures to prevent the spread of infection work well,” van Kerkhove said, urging all countries not to lose their vigilance and thanking them for their “epidemiological surveillance”.
