A draft law on Russia's withdrawal from the WTO was submitted to the State Duma

A bill was submitted to the State Duma that provides for the denunciation of the treaty on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), such an initiative was made by the deputies of A Just Russia - For Truth, according to the website of the parliament.

The explanatory note states that Russia initially, after joining the organization, received the most favored nation regime, quantitative restrictions and prohibitions on freedom of transit were lifted. However, the deputies continued, after the deterioration of relations with the European Union, the United States and other countries since 2014, these benefits began to decline.

“In order to protect the national interests of the Russian Federation, the need to pursue a protectionist policy, as a response to sanctions pressure and as self-defense [the country should leave the WTO],” the State Duma deputies explained.

“Russia must immediately withdraw from the WTO, once and for all done with an organization that, with its restrictions, has done a lot of harm to our economy,” said party chairman Sergei Mironov.
