The story said that they "did not have the opportunity to leave the building - they were held by militants," and the family learned about the open humanitarian corridor "on the radio."

President Vladimir Putin , who also met with the UN Secretary General, but in Moscow on April 26, noted that if there are civilians on Azovstal, "then the Ukrainian army servicemen are obliged to release them." The Secretary General's office later reported that Putin "agreed in principle" to the participation of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross in the evacuation of civilians from Azovstal.
