The European Parliament at the plenary session on June 9, by a majority vote, approved the introduction of a vaccination certificate in the European Union, according to the EP website.
546 members of the European Parliament voted in favor of the initiative, 93 members voted against, and another 51 deputies abstained.
The system of coronavirus certificates will work from July 1. The document will be issued free of charge, in digital or paper format, and testify that its bearer has been vaccinated against the coronavirus, has recently received a negative test result, or has recovered from the infection. “In practice, these will be three different certificates,” the EP noted.
The European Parliament has indicated that the certificate will not be considered a travel document.
According to the decision of the European Parliament, the EU countries will not be able to require the holders of such documents to comply with additional restrictive measures (go into quarantine, observe self-isolation or take tests) if this is not necessary, for example, due to the epidemiological situation.
