The European Commission has updated its measures to combat bovine dermatosis following an outbreak in Girona.

Implementing Decision 2026/230, published this Friday in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), explains that Spain, in response to the new outbreak of the disease, has established the appropriate protection and surveillance zones in Catalonia, as well as the measures to be applied, which are detailed in the annex to this regulation.

The size and duration of the vaccination zones are also important .

He explains that “given the epidemiological situation of contagious nodular dermatosis in Spain, it is necessary to maintain the ban” on the movement of livestock from restricted areas.

Contagious nodular dermatosis is a vector-borne infectious disease of cattle that can have serious consequences for affected livestock populations and livestock profitability, and disrupt the movement of animals and their products within and outside the EU .

According to the European Commission, in the event of an outbreak of contagious nodular dermatosis in cattle, there is a serious risk of the disease spreading to other livestock farms, as it is transmitted mainly by vectors.
