Epizootic outbreak of African swine fever eliminated in Ulyanovsk region 

The HEAD of the region instructed the responsible persons to control the issue of the allocation of compensation for payments to the owners of animals seized during the elimination of foci of the disease.

According to the head of the Veterinary Agency of the Ulyanovsk region Nina Pelevina, on June 3, a disease of African swine fever was detected in the village of Lava, Sursky district. The municipality was immediately put on high alert and quarantined by decree of the Governor. According to the plan for the elimination of the disease, the procedure for the alienation of pigs and pig products was approved. Based on the results of the survey, an epizootic focus was identified - one of the peasant farms, as well as three infected objects: places with the remains of a wild boar and infected pigs in a forest, a pigsty where sick domestic animals were kept. 14 villages of the Sursky district entered the threatened zone, the entire Sursky district entered the surveillance zone.

“We consider the cause of the disease to be the circulation of the virus among wild boars, forests bordering the Sengileevskiye Gory National Park. The spread was facilitated by the concealment of the facts of the death of pigs and the violation of the disposal of biological waste. As part of the work to eliminate the disease, we are actively interacting with the administration of the Sursky district, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the police," the head of the department said.

At the moment, the epizootic focus and infected objects have been eliminated: 197 infected animal corpses, as well as the remains of pigs and wild boar found in the forest, were destroyed by burning. The wooden structures of livestock buildings were also dismantled and destroyed, disinfection was carried out. In the threatened zone, 180 animals were seized from residents of the villages of Lava, Bely Klyuch, the village of Elita and the working village of Surskoye.

According to Mikhail Semyonkin, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Agro-Industrial Complex and Rural Development of the Ulyanovsk Region, at present, important tasks are to make calculations for the payment of compensation to owners for seized pigs and pig products from the reserve fund of the Regional Government, to withdraw pigs in the threatened zone, and also to purchase additional diagnostics to detect the disease. it is also important to clean up the source of infection - wild boars.

Currently, the breeding and trade of pigs, the sale of pork MEAT, the EXPORT of feed without heat treatment outside the Sursky district are prohibited until special decisions are made.
