In the Nizhny Novgorod region will open a laboratory for the reproduction of cows

An enterprise may be opened in the Nizhny Novgorod region where cows will be produced by sexing, Kommersant reports. Oleg Kislitsyn, DIRECTOR General of Nizhegorodskoye LLC, on the basis of which this laboratory will be created, believes that it will not be possible to launch the project without government support.

The sexing method is a method of separating a seed into a seed that, if fertilized, will produce a bull, and a seed that will produce a cow, the scientists explain. In normal livestock reproduction, bulls and cows are born in approximately equal numbers, but in dairy production, bulls are not needed in such quantities, and sexing allows you to choose which fetus the cow will bear, and reduce the appearance of bulls to 10% of the herd.

This method is used by livestock producers abroad, but it is not common in RUSSIA - sexed semen is imported to Russia, the expert noted. In general, livestock production in the country lags behind world practice by thirty years, according to the expert, neither the sexing method nor embryo transplantation is used in Russia. Own laboratory could change this, Oleg Kislitsyn believes, but 20-25 million rubles need to be invested in the enterprise. The support of the state is needed here, the expert believes.

The government of the region noted that it is really important to create such centers, however, the investment plan needs to be thought out in such a way as to cover the entire breeding livestock breeding program in the region until 2030.
