Rospotrebnadzor estimated the economic damage from CORONAVIRUS infection at more than 997 billion rubles. This is stated in the state report "On the state of sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population in the Russian Federation in 2020", published on Monday on the agency's website.
“Summing up the listed budget expenditures due to the spread of covid-19 , we can conclude that even without taking into account the loss of unproduced gross national product due to deaths, permanent and temporary disability, the damage to the economy from a new infection in 2020 in terms of value amounted to more than 997.06 billion rubles, which is 1.4 times more than the total damage from other infectious diseases,” the document says.
Funds allocated directly to the organization and provision of medical care to patients with COVID-19 amounted to at least 189.4 billion rubles, and direct payments from the federal budget for the fight against infection (support for the population and enterprises) amounted to at least 515.9 billion rubles. Direct costs for hospital treatment amounted to about 183.06 billion rubles, the cost of testing exceeded 108.6 billion rubles.
