Between April 15 and May 5, Kazakhstan experienced an increase in the saiga population - almost one and a half times, by 45.3% compared to 2022, the National Union of Agricultural Insurers (NUA) reports. According to the NSA, the total number of saigas has exceeded 1.9 million, and requests for insurance against risks are already starting to come in from the regions.
Crops in the Volga region suffer losses every year when saigas migrate across the border with Kazakhstan, NSA reports. Experts predict that such an increase in livestock can seriously harm crops, pastures, and even lead to desertification of the steppe territories. At the same time, in RUSSIA, saigas are classified as protected species of animals; shooting of these animals is prohibited.
This confirms that damage from wild animals is a real problem for agribusiness, from which enterprises can suffer serious financial losses, the NSA notes. Therefore, the NSA is engaged in the development of insurance programs designed for the needs and risks of each specific region.
