The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation explained the rise in prices for eggs by the upcoming Easter, RIA Novosti reports a statement by the DIRECTOR of the department for the development of internal trade of the department, Nikita Kuznetsov.
“Eggs are now showing high dynamics. But we have Easter approaching (this year it is celebrated on May 2), this is the traditional time for a surge in prices. But this is being closely monitored,” Kuznetsov said.
From April 6 to April 12, the price of eggs in RUSSIA increased by 2.3 percent on average. A week earlier, from March 30 to April 5, the growth was 2.1%, and since the beginning of the year - 11.6%.
Kuznetsov clarified that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed some self-regulation mechanisms to the networks and thinks that they will agree to them.
The authorities do not intend to intervene in the situation with egg prices yet. Price controls are a last resort. “There is such a possibility… but for the time being we believe that this should not be done,” he said.
The department predicts that "in May, both production will increase and demand will fall."
Recall that we previously reported that the Ministry of Agriculture does not intend to regulate prices for poultry MEAT and eggs.
