The Russian Ministry of Agriculture is proposing to amend veterinary regulations for the control of bovine leukemia.

One of the key proposals is to shorten the quarantine period. The ministry noted that the application of existing regulations has demonstrated the need to update and improve them. Draft amendments proposing to shorten the quarantine lifting period in epizootic zones have been published on the official portal regulation.gov.ru.

Under the new regulations, quarantine can be lifted 60 days after the removal of all infected animals, provided two consecutive negative serological and molecular biological test results are obtained in susceptible animals aged 15 to 180 days. Under the current regulations, the quarantine period is 90 days. Furthermore, the amendments clarify the procedure for collecting samples for leukemia diagnostics, the quarantine conditions for newly arrived animals, and manure disposal requirements . They also regulate the slaughter of infected animals and confirmation of diagnosis.
