Australian scientists from the University of New England (UNE) in collaboration with Food Recycle Ltd. are developing poultry feed from food waste. and the Poultry Center of Australia. As the scientists report, the essence of the study was that, using patented technology from Food Recycle Ltd. food waste was processed into food pellets, which were then fed to the birds under the supervision of experts. As a result, it was determined whether the use of such feed has any consequences for poultry.
Observations have shown that feed made from recycled food waste does not affect either the quality of the eggs or the welfare of the birds. At the same time, the production of greenhouse gases by poultry is reduced, feeding efficiency increases, and less food waste that cannot be processed remains in landfills, the scientists noted.
The most interesting thing for poultry farmers will be the cost of such feed - scientists say that feed made from recycled waste will be much cheaper than feed made from raw materials like soybean meal, the price of which is constantly rising. Using feed from recycled waste can cut poultry feeding costs in half, according to scientists. At the same time, feed accounts for 65% of the cost of poultry.
