The aim would be to streamline trade between the two sides and attempt to create a common sanitary and phytosanitary zone that would facilitate trade without the need for certificates or the controls currently required.

This is just one of the areas in which they work together, along with others such as defence, trade and fisheries.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the aim was to help and support the country's businesses by boosting employment and helping to lower food prices , as well as cutting red tape.
