In Vitebsk, an 18-year-old boy was taken into custody for theft and arson of a car

February 14, Minsk. The Vitebsk regional department of the Investigative Committee is establishing the circumstances of the theft and arson of the car. This was announced to BelTA by Oksana Lazko, official representative of the USC in the Vitebsk region.

According to the investigation, on the night of January 16 this year, an 18-year-old young man in a state of intoxication stole a car belonging to one of the enterprises of the Vitebsk region. Riding around Vitebsk, he lost control and drove into a snowdrift. It was not possible to pull out and start the stolen car, then the guy set it on fire and fled the scene. A few hours after the incident, he was detained by law enforcement officers at the place of residence.

The investigative team examined the scene. Genetic and trasological examinations were appointed, as well as an examination of oil products, the production of which was entrusted to the SCSE. The defendant and witnesses were interrogated. It was established that the defendant did not have the right to drive a vehicle. Previously, he was prosecuted for theft and theft.

At present, an 18-year-old resident of the Vitebsk region has been charged under part 2 of article 214 (repeated theft of a vehicle) and part 2 of article 218 (deliberate destruction of another's property that caused damage on a large scale) of the Criminal Code. A measure of restraint in the form of detention was applied to him.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
