Western-style eating is a sure way to a heart attack

Swapping out fried and salty foods for lean salads could cut the global number of heart attacks by as much as a third. This conclusion was reached by scientists at the Canadian University, who conducted a global study of the eating habits of people in 52 countries, reports the BBC.

In their study, the results of which were published in the journal Circulation, scientists analyzed the diet of 16,000 people. As it turned out, the standard "Western" diet, containing a lot of fat, SALT and MEAT, is responsible for 30% of heart attacks, regardless of where a person lives. The "Oriental" diet, saturated with tofu and various sauces, on the contrary, does not affect heart HEALTH in any way. The most favorable was the "thrifty" diet, in which people eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. It reduces the risk of a heart attack by a third.

The dangers of the "Western" diet have long been known. Scientists remind that an increased amount of salt increases blood pressure, and an increased amount of fat has a bad effect on blood vessels. "30% of heart attacks are caused by poor nutrition," said study lead Romania Iqbal. However, each type of food has its drawbacks, such as, for example, soy sauce in the diet of the people of the East. Therefore, those who want to reduce the risk of heart disease should be more careful about what they eat, experts warn.

"This study shows that whether you live in Bolton or Bombay, whether you like British, Caribbean or Asian cuisine more, the most important thing is to minimize your intake of salt, fried and fatty foods and increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat. " says Ellen Mason, Fellow of the British Heart Foundation.
