Fruits and berries from Kabardino-Balkaria are sent to the regions of Russia as part of import substitution

The self-sufficiency of Kabardino-Balkaria in terms of fruits and berries, taking into account the harvest of 2021, is 429%. In 2021, gardeners of the republic collected 535.5 thousand tons of fruit and berry products.
Kabardino-Balkaria, within the framework of import substitution, can supply more than 400 thousand tons of various fruits and berries to the subjects of Russia.
“Agrarians of the region have been occupying their niche in the production of import-substituting products since the days of the food embargo and continue to expand their presence in this segment. Fruits and berries from Kabardino-Balkaria already today have an extensive geography of supplies and their regular customers, withstanding fierce competition. A significant role in this process is played by the construction of modern fruit storage facilities, which allow almost until the new harvest to preserve the taste properties, marketable appearance of products, supplying the population with fresh fruits all year round. Today, the capacity of fruit storage facilities is almost 186,000 tons,” said Khasan Sizhazhev, Minister of Agriculture of Kabardino-Balkaria.
For several years in a row, Kabardino-Balkaria has been in the top 5 regions of Russia in terms of the rate of establishment of perennial fruit and berry plantations. Last year, 1.5 thousand hectares of perennial plantings were planted in the republic.
According to the minister, Kabardino-Balkaria intends to further increase the planting area of ​​perennial plantations, increase the gross harvest of fruits and berries, increase storage capacity and invest its mite in the production of import-substituting products.
