Not 100% secured. Why are vegetables and fruits more expensive in the region?

Prices for vegetables and fruits in Kaliningrad stores have risen due to the fact that the stocks of local producers have run out and new crops are being supplied from other countries. This was told by the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Industry and Trade of the region Irina Grakova on Thursday, April 7, live on the page of the regional government "VKontakte".

“We have such a factor as seasonality. The Kaliningrad region is not yet 100% self-sufficient in all vegetables. At some point, usually in winter, we run out of our own production grown here. Deliveries begin as now - from Serbia, Macedonia. These are deliveries of a new harvest, they are always an order of magnitude higher in price than when the main harvest is in progress and the price decreases. This happens year after year. Somewhere in May, when our greenhouse economy begins to work at full speed and new harvests of open ground begin, the price always falls, ”the official explained.

As RBC Kaliningrad wrote, the rise in prices in the stores of the region is affected not only by the exchange rate, but also by the lengthening of logistics supplies, as well as by the increased cost of raw materials purchased at high prices in foreign currency.
