Turkey reported progress with payment for exports to Russia in 4 sectors

In January, Turkish banks stopped making payments for exports to RUSSIA. According to the newspaper Economim, now they are carried out by one bank for goods from four industries, with the rest the problems are still being resolved

In Turkey, Emlak Katılım Bank began to carry out money transfers from Russia for the EXPORT of goods from four industries: food , textiles, clothing and shoes, writes the local newspaper Economim.

Problems with such transactions began in December, and in January they stopped, the publication points out. Economim wrote, citing sources, that exporters stopped receiving payments in lira and rubles, some banks sent back already accepted transactions, explaining that the transactions concerned “prohibited goods.”

According to Kommersant sources, Turkish banks broke correspondent relationships and suspended payment processing without formally closing the agreement; this applied to almost all banks in the country.

The Turkish authorities intervened in the situation , writes Economim. Exporters expect that the number of industries for which payments can be made will expand, in particular due to the automotive and engineering industries.

As TASS and Kommersant sources reported, the disruptions are related to measures taken by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) - this agency mainly imposes sanctions on the part of Washington.

Russian Ambassador to Turkey Alexey Erkhov told RIA Novosti that diplomats are in contact with the authorities of the republic on the issue of payments. The agency's source said that the country's state-owned banks have partially resumed transactions from Russia, and the issue with commercial banks was being resolved. The agency's interlocutor admitted that the problems would be resolved by January 25.
