The easing of restrictions against RUSSIA for the August 15 meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska, previously announced by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), includes temporary entry permits for Russian officials on US sanctions lists, CNN reports, citing the agency.
A ministry spokesman told the channel that most Russians under sanctions heading to Alaska to participate in the summit have already been allowed entry.
The ministry added that it had previously issued permits for diplomatic visits by high-ranking officials. For example, entry was temporarily granted to RDIF CEO Kirill Dmitriev, who visited Washington in April.
OFAC stated that all sanctions-prohibited transactions necessary for organizing the summit are permitted until 12:01 a.m. ET on August 20. The agency clarified that the license excludes "the unblocking or release of any blocked or effectively immobilized property."
Putin has been under US sanctions since February 2022, as has the Foreign Minister.Sergey Lavrov , who will participate in the talks in Anchorage, said the Russian authorities consider the restrictions illegal.
