July 10, Brest. The Kobrin District Department of the Investigative Committee is investigating the death of a woman who was poisoned with a particularly dangerous psychotropic substance, BelTA reports, citing Roman Zarmayev, the official spokesman for the Investigative Committee for the Brest Region.

In May 2025, a 39-year-old man called an ambulance and reported that his wife had become ill due to ALCOHOL consumption. Paramedics performed resuscitation but were unable to save the woman. An investigative team was working at the scene. During the apartment inspection,Law enforcement officers discovered mephedrone. A search of the deceased's phone revealed numerous payments for drugs on the darknet.

"The couple regularly used illegal substances. According to the forensic medical examination, the woman's death was caused by mephedrone poisoning," said Roman Zarmaev. "The deceased had previously been charged with drug possession and theft of property." The couple were raising three young children.

The Kobrin Regional Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for the illegal trafficking of psychotropic substances, resulting in the death of a person through negligence (Part 5, Article 328 of the Criminal Code). A criminal case has been opened against the deceased's husband for the acquisition and possession of psychotropic substances without intent to sell (Part 1, Article 328 of the Criminal Code).
