In Poland, they announced a “collapsed” apple market due to the Russian embargo

The main reason for the collapse of the APPLE market in Poland was the food embargo imposed by RUSSIA in 2014, other EXPORT routes could not replace trade with Moscow, Miroslav Maliszewski, president of the Polish Horticultural Association, said in an interview with Interia.

He noted that Polish apples are exported both to the EU countries and to other states, in particular, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, India, and Egypt. The latter "largely" replaced the Russian market, in Egypt Poland became the largest supplier of apples, exporting about 160 thousand tons per year.

However, this cannot compensate for the loss of the Russian market, which was supplied with up to one million tons of apples annually, Malishevsky emphasized.

"The entire development of our sector was based on this market. We were the largest supplier to the largest apple import market in the world," he said.

Despite the crisis in this sector, trade and logistics companies are well equipped, gardeners have experience, and this should not be lost. Therefore, Malishevsky pointed out, industry representatives are calling on the authorities to help.

In August 2014, Russia imposed an embargo on the import of products from the United States , the European Union, CANADA, Australia and Norway. The measures were taken as a response to the imposition of sanctions by Western countries due to the situation in Ukraine, in particular, the annexation of Crimea to Russia. The black list includes vegetables, fruits, meats, cheeses and nuts.

After the imposition of the embargo in Poland, a public campaign began to increase consumption of apples: Poles were urged to eat more raw apples and drink apple cider.

In 2015, Russia decided to destroy sanctioned goods.
