Ministry of Health expert urged not to use antibiotics to prevent COVID

Antibiotics do not prevent CORONAVIRUS infection and should not be used to prevent infection. This was announced by the chief freelance microbiologist of the Russian Ministry of HEALTH, Professor Roman Kozlov, his words were reported to RBC by the press service of the Ministry of Health.

According to him, any antibiotics do not work on viruses, including coronavirus. Kozlov added that antibiotics also do not work to "prevent possible bacterial complications" in a coronavirus infection.

“Unfortunately, if you use antibiotics inappropriately, it can lead to the fact that other microorganisms that live in the oral cavity, in the intestines, which can potentially cause diseases, become resistant to them,” he said.

Kozlov also recalled that only a DOCTOR can prescribe antibiotics.

Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor warned that taking antibiotics for influenza can be harmful to health. The service explained that taking antibiotics in the first days of the disease leads to the fact that they kill the normal microflora and weaken the immune system.
