The United States imposed sanctions against ten Russian companies, they were added to the SDN (Spicially Designated Nationals List), which means blocking all owned assets and prohibiting Americans from interacting with them. The list is published on the department's website.

It included:

Concern "Morinformsystem - Agat". The website states that, among other things, the company is the lead organization for fire control systems for various types of weapons, combat information and control systems and integrated control systems for surface ships and submarines; Central Research Institute of Structural Materials "Prometheus". One of the key activities of the institute is "Structural steels and functional materials for marine equipment"; Battery company "Rigel". The company calls itself the country's leading developer and manufacturer of modern lithium-ion batteries and batteries for autonomous and uninterruptible power systems, communications, transport "and other equipment"; Central Research Institute of Ship Engineering (Sudmash).The enterprise produces, among other things, arresters for takeoff and landing complexes for aircraft carriers and underwater manipulator devices ; Research and Production Association "Aurora" -  deals with combat information systems, control systems for surface and submarine fleets and other products, including civilian ones; Concern "TsNII" Elektropribor "  - develops and manufactures navigation systems for submarines and surface ships, spacecraft orientation systems, etc.; "Obukhovskoye" - specializes in the design and manufacture of deck mechanisms, marine equipment complexes, hydraulic systems ; "Marine Navigation Systems"
   – develops and is engaged in the serial production of ship navigation and communication equipment, automation and security systems ; Institute of Oceanology. P.P. Shirshov RAS -  conducts research in all oceans, including the Arctic and Antarctic waters of the Southern Ocean, explores marine biology and ecology, ocean physics, tests "new technologies for studying and developing the World Ocean" ; "Technopol"  -  deals with hydrochemistry, hydrography, oceanography, conducts dynamic, climatic and vibration tests .

Sanctions against defense companies were introduced by the US authorities, in particular, in early March. The measures were intended to "further restrict [Vladimir] Putin's war machine" and impose significant costs on organizations.

The Russian authorities criticize the sanctions policy of Western countries in general and the United States in particular, calling such actions illegitimate. President Vladimir Putin calls the sanctions crazy and thoughtless. He insists that pessimistic forecasts about the future of the Russian economy are part of the information war against the country.
