The US State Department will impose sanctions related to the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in North Korea and Syria against three legal entities and two individuals, four of which are Russian, follows from a notice from the US State Department published in the American Federal Register.
The restrictions included:
The measures came into force on February 27 and will last for two years, the document says. They include a ban on the sale and purchase of goods from US agencies, as well as the revocation of licenses to transfer weapons to persons on the list.
Shevelin was already included in the sanctions list of the US State Department, then the department stated that he was associated with the Wagner PMC and contributed to the supply of ammunition to Russia. Rim Yong-hyuk was also already on the list. “Pavel Pavlovich Shevelin is being designated for his current or past work in the defense sector and related technical sector of the Russian Federation,” the State Department said in a statement.
The fact that Pyongyang supplied Moscow with ammunition for infantry and missiles for the needs of the Wagner PMC was announced in December 2022 by the communications coordinator of the US National Security Council, John Kirby. Both Moscow and Pyongyang denied these accusations. Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora called the US allegations false. Pyongyang maintained that it has not supplied and does not plan to supply weapons to Moscow.
