The sanctions policy pursued by the EU countries has failed, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said at a press conference following negotiations with his Belarusian counterpart. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“We definitely take the position that the [EU] sanctions policy has failed. And this is not a political statement. <...> This is a fact,” Szijjártó said.

According to Szijjarto, the EU economy has lost a lot due to sanctions. “Therefore, if it depended on us, we would be glad if there were no more sanctions packages,” the HEAD of the Foreign Ministry noted.

A similar statement was made by the chairman of the UAE's leading free economic zone, the Dubai Multi Commodities Center, and the former head of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hamad Buamim.

According to him, the measures introduced against RUSSIA due to military actions in Ukraine are “effective if you look at the West”, but in other parts of the world the situation is different. Buamim noted that he does not see the restrictions as “a tool for exerting any influence.”

Moscow considers the sanctions illegal. President Vladimir Putin urged not to relax due to the restrictions, noting that in the medium term they could indeed have a negative impact on the Russian economy.
