Names Industry Where RUSSIA 's Exports Grow 20% YoY.Rosatom estimated the growth of deliveries abroad at 15%

Exports of Russian nuclear fuel and nuclear technology grew by 20% in 2022, BLOOMBERG writes, citing trade data compiled by the UK's Royal Institution for Defense Research (RISU).

At the same time, the institute did not take into account the supply of nuclear fuel to countries under sanctions, including Iran. Its data is obtained from a third-party supplier and is based on information from Russian customs.

Purchases by EU countries rose to the highest level in three years, the agency said. So, last year the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia continued to buy fuel from Rosatom. According to RISU, the countries of Eastern Europe, where Soviet-era reactors are located, have accounted for two-fifths of Rosatom's exports since 2019. However, the Russian nuclear industry also has fast-growing markets, including India and CHINA, Bloomberg noted.

Bloomberg called it unlikely that the EU will impose sanctions against Rosatom Politics

The agency indicates that Rosatom supplies about one-fifth of the enriched uranium required to operate 92 reactors in the United States . In Europe, Russian fuel is needed by enterprises supplying energy to 100 million inhabitants.

As Bloomberg notes, in addition to money, exporting in the field of nuclear energy means establishing long-term relationships, since it is expensive at the initial stage, and subsequently involves long-term agreements for servicing and replenishing fuel reserves. At the same time, the agency points out, Russia has almost no competitors in this area, since it has invested in the nuclear industry, when in other countries it has almost atrophied.

The HEAD of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, said in December that the volume of supplies of Rosatom abroad by the end of 2022 would exceed $10 billion, an increase of about 15%.

Rosatom responded to the sanctions with words about nuclear energy outside of politics Politics

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called for the inclusion of the Russian nuclear industry and Rosatom in particular in the sanctions list. On February 5, the head of state imposed sanctions against the state corporation and other companies in the nuclear industry. However, as Bloomberg wrote, Rosatom is unlikely to fall under EU sanctions under the tenth package of measures due to the objections of a number of countries of the union. The agency did not name these states, but earlier the Hungarian authorities, where Rosatom is building new units for the Paks NPP and Bulgaria, announced their refusal to support restrictions against the Russian nuclear industry.

According to REUTERS, Poland and Latvia also insisted on sanctions against nuclear energy. Andrzej Sados, the Polish ambassador to the EU, said he was disappointed with the proposals for a tenth package of sanctions against Russia, which would not include restrictions against Rosatom.
