Throughout 2021, American companies have invested millions of dollars and a lot of effort to convince their employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19. To date, some of them have succeeded, while others have not. In the US , despite federal government plans to require vaccination in most workspaces, nearly four in ten citizens are still unvaccinated.
The more workers who are vaccinated, the more of them will be able to return to the workplace with the confidence that it is safe. Nevertheless, even among companies in the same industry, there is a very large gap in the number of vaccinated.
For example, Tyson Foods Corporation reported that 90% of people in its state were vaccinated. Meanwhile, in other companies with a similar number of employees, the figure is much lower than 50%. Thus, today it is already possible to draw conclusions about what practices encourage employees to take root more actively.
“Cash awards work best,” says Radica Papandreou, Head of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure at Korn Ferry. In her field, she has documented the success of small cash bonuses as a reward for anyone who receives a dose of vaccine: "Here, the carrot works better than the stick."
