Virologists advised not to take Omicron as a live vaccine

You should not try to specifically become infected with the Omicron strain in order to gain immunity, virologists interviewed by RBC believe. According to them, despite the fact that people with this strain tolerate the disease more easily than with others, there are cases of death.

“We had a lot of conversations about the fact that covid-19 vaccines are raw, unfinished, some HEALTH complications are possible. Let's now transfer these doubts to the so-called live vaccine in the form of the Omicron strain. In Moscow today, omicron is approximately 80%, and the number of deaths over the previous day is 73. These data should be quite enough not to perceive omicron as a live vaccine, ”explained Sergey Voznesensky, Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases at RUDN University .

Anatoly Altshtein, chief researcher at the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, emphasized that omicron is much more contagious than other strains, and the vaccine protects against it worse.

Omicron is highly contagious. It reproduces better, which means that the doses of the virus that go to infection are higher. Immunity breaks through, and a person gets sick. That is, the vaccine really works worse. But, as a rule, vaccinated people get sick quite easily, ”said the scientist.
