Rospotrebnadzor announced the detection of a strain of lactobacilli from COVID-19

Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. IN Blokhina of Rospotrebnadzor, together with the State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology "Vector", has identified a strain of lactobacilli active against CORONAVIRUS, according to the agency's website.

The scientists studied the activity of six strains of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria against the epidemic influenza virus H1N1, the highly pathogenic strain of the avian influenza virus H5N6 and the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

“It has been established that probiotic strains of lactobacilli and one strain of bifidobacteria show pronounced activity against influenza viruses, and one of the strains of lactobacilli is also active against the SARS-CoV-2 virus,” the report says. The research results were published in the foreign scientific journal Biomed Research International.

In June 2020, the Russian Academy of Sciences did not rule out the emergence of a vaccine against COVID-19 in the form of yogurt. According to the vice-president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Chekhonin, preclinical studies of a vaccine are underway, in which antigens will attach to probiotic bacteria contained in fermented MILK products.
