Russians who arrived from South Africa, including two who became infected with a new strain of coronavirus - omicron, were placed in a sanatorium located in the Moscow region, the Rossiya 1 TV channel reports.

According to the channel, 58 Russian tourists who arrived from South Africa were placed in a separate building of the sanatorium in the Moscow region.

Ten tourists tested positive for COVID-19 , they were first quarantined in an observatory, and then in a hospital, where those who have signs of SARS are also located.

Rospotrebnadzor reported the first cases of infection with the omicron strain in Russia the day before. According to the agency, ten passengers from South Africa were diagnosed with coronavirus, two of them turned out to have an omicron strain. Currently, experts determine the strains of the virus in the rest. Rospotrebnadzor noted that all citizens returning to Russia from South Africa and neighboring countries are tested at the border and placed in specially trained observatories, where they are also tested daily, and in case of a positive result, they are placed in the boxes of infectious diseases hospitals.
