The Russian drug "Mir-19" will be effective against a new strain of COVID-19 , which is called "omicron". Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA), stated this on air on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
“We set ourselves the task of developing highly specific antiviral etiotropic drugs that would act on conservative sites. That is, regardless of the change in lines and the appearance of new mutations, these drugs would remain universal. Our Institute of Immunology has created such a drug - the Mir-19 drug," she said.
Answering the question whether Mir-19 is effective in treating the Omicron strain, Skvortsova answered: “Yes.”
According to her, the second phase of clinical trials of the Mir-19 drug shows its advantage over existing coronavirus drugs.
