Rospotrebnadzor: a new subspecies of COVID "Centaur" has not yet been identified in the Kuban

In the Krasnodar Territory, at the moment, not a single case of infection with the new subspecies of covid-19 "Centaur" has been registered. RBC Krasnodar was told about this in the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor.

On Wednesday, Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy DIRECTOR of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said that seven cases of the Centaur disease had already been recorded in RUSSIA. For the first time, a new subspecies of CORONAVIRUS was confirmed on July 19 in Moscow.

“Five genomic sequences assigned to subvariant BA.2.75 (“Centaur”) of the Omicron strain have also been loaded into the VGARus database. The sampling of material is dated July. The material was selected in Moscow. In all patients, the disease proceeds in a mild form. There are no hospitalized among the sick, ”Rospotrebnadzor reported.

As of July 27, 204 cases of coronavirus were registered in the Krasnodar Territory. This is six times more than revealed on the eve of July 26. 33 people were hospitalized, 80 were discharged with recovery. No lethal cases were registered during the day.

What is known about the "Centaur"

'Centaur' is a new subspecies of the omicron coronavirus strain. This coronavirus mutation has been found in India as well as ten other countries including the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, the UK, the US and CANADA.

According to virologists, a new subspecies of coronavirus is more contagious than previous versions, but rarely causes serious illness. At the same time, people who have been ill with "omicron" will be immune to this option.

“Now the trend is that this disease will become a seasonal infection, like the flu virus. The virus will weaken, it will spread faster, people will get sick more easily, ”the scientific director of the Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums named after I.I.
