On May 16, military personnel began to be withdrawn from Azovstal. Four days later, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the complete "liberation" of the plant. According to the agency, 2,439 fighters of the Azov Regiment (some of its materials were recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) and military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine surrendered.
