Popova spoke about the well-being of patients with "omicron"

Patients with omicron-strain of coronavirus who arrived in Russia from African countries suffer a mild form of the disease. The head of Rospotrebnadzor announced this on Tuesday at a general meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, RBC correspondent reports.

According to her, 177 people who arrived from South Africa, Namibia and Tanzania are now being observed in Russia. Infection with “omicron” was detected in 16 patients, clinical symptoms of coronavirus are observed in 17. “Among them, mostly immune people - those who are vaccinated (11 people) or have had the disease (seven people). One person was both vaccinated and got sick, ”Popova noted.

All patients have a mild form of COVID-19 . The most common symptoms are fever, weakness, headache, cough, sleep disturbance. Two patients complained of diarrhea, and only one patient reported disturbances in taste and smell. Most of the observed "keep within the incubation period of seven days."

“To date, the results are as follows: among people who have immunity to previous variants of the strain, we do not see a pronounced clinic,” Popova concluded.

She also said that a test system created in Russia for determining the omicron strain is being tested in South Africa. Popova added that it can also be tested in Russia, because there are already identified cases of “omicron” in the country.
