About 200 illegal migrants were detained over the past two days at the border between Lithuania and Belarus. The border guards had to use weapons and tear gas in response to the aggression, reports Delfi.

According to the report, 179 people were detained in Druskininkai municipality, four more people - in Shvenchenskiy. The migrants were citizens of India and Pakistan. Natives of the Gambia were detained in the Varensky region of Lithuania.

According to the agency, eight illegal immigrants resisted the Lithuanian border guards. In this regard, law enforcement officers used force. The aggressors were handcuffed, then isolated until the results of the COVID-19 test were received .

Recall that on June 30, the Lithuanian government declared a state of emergency due to the influx of illegal migrants from the territory of Belarus. It is reported that most of them tried to get to the countries of Western Europe through Lithuania.

As RBC Kaliningrad reported, on July 1, the Lithuanian government canceled the COVID quarantine introduced at the end of last year. At the same time, the state of emergency will remain in the country.
