Negotiations between Lavrov and Blinken, dedicated to Russian proposals for security guarantees, took place today in Geneva and lasted 1.5 hours. Both sides said they did not expect breakthroughs from them: Russia hoped to get answers on proposals for security guarantees, and the State Department was going to find out what the Kremlin had come to as a result of the consultations.
There really was no breakthrough as a result of the consultations. Lavrov said that during the meeting in Geneva, he heard a preliminary verbal reaction to the projects proposed by Russia , the United States and NATO on security guarantees, as well as some clarifying questions. Lavrov did not disclose the essence of the preliminary answers. Blinken said at a press conference that the United States confirms its previous negotiating positions: the policy of "open doors" in NATO will continue, Russia needs to withdraw troops from the Ukrainian border, in the event of a new invasion, Moscow will receive a decisive rebuff. Blinken promised to prepare a written response to Russia's initiatives next week.
