Human case of bird flu reported in China

The Veterinary and Life departmental publication of the ROSSELKHOZNADZOR reported the world's first case of human infection with the low pathogenic avian influenza A (H10N3) virus, recorded in the Chinese province of Jiangsu.

The National HEALTH Committee of the People's Republic of CHINA confirmed the presence of the pathogen in a patient of the clinic. On April 23, a 41-year-old man felt unwell, characteristic of a respiratory disease. Subsequently, he was hospitalized due to deterioration of health.

During the examination in samples of nasal mucus and epithelium of the upper respiratory tract, a virus of the H10N3 subtype was found. From the moment of hospitalization, all members of the patient's family were under observation. None of them got infected. Analysis of the genome of the virus showed that so far it is not able to be transmitted from person to person.

Now the patient who recovered from influenza A(H10N3) is preparing for discharge from the hospital. Chinese scientists assess the risk of the spread of the virus as very low.
