Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral agricultural cooperation with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to the Russian Federation Christina Marty Lang. The meeting was held at the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, the ministry's press service said.
According to the minister, the dynamics of the development of relations with Switzerland through the agro-industrial complex remains at a stable level. Thus, according to the results of last year, the turnover of agricultural products and foodstuffs increased by 6% to $311 million. Over the four months of this year, mutual deliveries increased by more than 20% and reached $110 million.
“We have good opportunities for the further development of trade, including increasing the share of agricultural products exported from Russia. A good example is the increase in our wheat supplies to Switzerland this year. We are interested in increasing exports of other types of grain, as well as oil and fat, fish, confectionery and alcoholic products,” said Dmitry Patrushev. In order to intensify cooperation, the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agriculture is currently at the final stage.
Another topic of the meeting was the interaction in the field of veterinary and phytosanitary supervision. In particular, instructions-directives are currently being formed to control Swiss enterprises that supply products of animal origin to Russia.
