USA: The largest American poultry producer will close four poultry factories

The company had already cut jobs earlier this year and closed two other poultry plants as it grapples with declining profits and weaker consumer demand weighed down by inflation and rising interest rates, Reuters writes .

The four plants currently scheduled to close are located in Arkansas, Indiana and Missouri. The four facilities account for about 10% of chicken slaughter, wsws.org reports, according to the company's chief financial officer, John R. Tyson.

Tyson Foods previously reported a loss of $97 million for the first quarter of 2023. It was the company's first quarterly loss since 2009. For comparison: a year earlier the company received a net profit of $829 million. Tyson Foods CEO Donnie King said at the time that the quarter was "definitely challenging."
