French beef production to fall in 2025 due to cattle diseases

This decline is attributed to decapitalization and vector-borne diseases such as epizootic haemorrhagic disease and bluetongue, which have led to excess mortality and fertility problems among cattle .

These problems have resulted in more cows being sent to slaughter, accelerating the trend of decapitalization. In addition, the number of replacement cows will decrease in 2025, leading to a decrease in female production.

The production of calves is expected to decrease significantly (-8.2%) due to the fertility deficit and the transition of young animals to fattening. Consequently, the production of calves for slaughter will also decrease.
