“Halal” sausage with pig DNA was imported from the Kyrgyz Republic to Russia

Several gross violations of food safety standards established by the requirements of Russia or the EAEU were detected in products supplied from Kyrgyzstan in 2023, Rosselkhoznadzor reports. The report indicated that there were problems with the supply of fish products and meat products.

Thus, the Rosselkhoznadzor in March 2023 conducted an inspection of fish factories in Kyrgyzstan and revealed gross violations of the rules for veterinary certification of products supplied to Russia. For two years, trout and trout caviar supplied from Kyrgyzstan were found to contain harmful impurities, while the fish itself did not correspond to the size that river trout in Kyrgyzstan can reach, which is why the agency suspected that this fish was supplied from another country.

This is not the only case when Kyrgyz suppliers gave out the products of one country to another - earlier in 2023, Kyrgyz suppliers sent a batch of pork fat to Russia under the guise of Paraguayan products. 

The latest study of products supplied from Kyrgyzstan showed that halal sausage contains pig DNA, as well as soy protein not listed in the composition, Rosselkhoznadzor reports. At the same time, the manufacturer positions itself as having a Halal veterinary certificate and meeting strict quality standards.

Rosselkhoznadzor specialists believe that the competent authorities of Kyrgyzstan show an insufficient level of control over the compliance of enterprises with safety standards during production and weakly control products sent for export, including by issuing veterinary certificates allowing supplies.
