
April 11, Vitebsk. The prosecutor's office of the Vitebsk region supported in court the state prosecution in a criminal case against a 32-year-old resident of Lepel, who was charged with a violation of traffic rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated , which negligently caused grievous bodily harm. This was reported to a BelTA correspondent in the regional prosecutor's office.
As established during the judicial investigation, in August 2021, in a state of intoxication, a Lepel resident was driving a Mazda 3 car along the M3 Minsk-Vitebsk highway. However, he did not have a driving license. During overtaking, the defendant drove into the oncoming lane at a speed of at least 114.5 km/h and began to fall asleep, lost control of the vehicle, collided with a Volkswagen Passat moving in its lane. As a result of the accident, the driver of the Volkswagen was seriously injured.
At the court session, the resident of Lepel pleaded guilty in full.
Taking into account the evidence provided by the public prosecutor, the court of the Beshenkovichi district delivered a guilty verdict. On the basis of part 4 of article 317 of the Criminal Code, the man was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 4 years with serving in a correctional colony in a settlement with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for a term of 8 years.
The verdict has not entered into force, it can be appealed and protested on appeal.
